DNV and SDTR Marine have agreed to collaborate for a feasibility study

A Joint Development Project has begun for a techno-economic analysis of CCS implementation aboard bulk carriers. This project involves DNV and SDTR Marine and will see both parties working collaboratively on this analysis.

The point of this project is to study and evaluate the economic viability and differences between a variety of fuel and technology approaches, whilst applying varying fuel and Co2 price scenarios. This experiment has been modeled off of the DNV’s FuelPath and this model will account for both future decarbonisation mandates, as well as Singapore-based SDTR Marine’s emission targets. These statistics will also take into account the ship owner’s drive to improve energy efficiency and their contribution towards the decarbonisation of the shipping industry.

This project highlights the interest CCS has gained recently, through this industry’s continued interest in reducing its carbon footprint through a multitude of ways. The industry and companies involved in the industry are all clearly willing to continue their work with older and more ‘reliable’ methods for carbon capture, as well as working on new and innovative techniques which have the potential to accelerate the process. This interest in new and innovative techniques is the focus for this collaboration between DNV and SDTR Marine.

CEO of SDTR Marine Pte Ltd, Gao Dehui, commented, “CCS technology aboard maritime vessels represents a significant advancement in reducing the environmental footprint of the shipping industry. One of the most positive aspects of this technology is its ability to significantly decrease carbon emissions from ships. The exploration of CCS technology on our vessels epitomizTR Marinees SDTR Marine’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Showcasing our continuous efforts to explore various ways of reducing carbon emissions in maritime operations and operate more sustainably."

Regional Manager South East Asia, Pacific & India, Maritime at DNV, Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, mentioned, "As the maritime industry advances towards decarbonization, shipowners must strategically plan for regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. We are excited to be working with SDTR Marine to explore cost-effective fuel strategies to support their net-zero goals. Leveraging DNV's global network and the expertise of our Maritime Decarbonization Centre of Excellence in Singapore, we are well-positioned to guide the industry through this energy transition in compliance with IMO’s emission targets."
