Navigator Aims to Expand the Scope of Heartland Greenway

CCUS specialist firm Navigator CO2 Ventures LLC (Navigator) announced on 24 February that it has filed an updated permit application with the Illinois Commerce Commission to expand the scope of the carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) project, Heartland Greenway. The new proposal includes the addition of 42 miles pipeline to connect the additional permanent storage locations in central Illinois.

By leveraging Central Illinois’ well-studied geology for carbon storage, Navigator will be able to extend the economic benefits to more stakeholders in Illinois, increase storage capacity, and provide a range of carbon management solutions to its growing customer base, the company claims.

“Our team is excited to advance the development of additional permanent storage locations for the Heartland Greenway platform,” said Navigator CEO Matt Vining. “The updated permit and expanded footprint allow us to address the increasing commercial demand regionally, especially within the Illinois industrial complex.”

Heartland Greenway is a Navigator CO2 proposed carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) system that will provide biofuel producers and other industrial customers in five Midwest states with a long-term and cost-effective means to reduce their carbon footprint.

Reaching industrial customers in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota, the project will help customers with financing and constructing their CO2 equipment and safely transport the captured CO2 over a pipeline network.
