CCS services will be offered through a partnership between CGG and Baker Hughes

It was in Houston at the 2024 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) that CGG and Baker Hughes signed an MoU agreement. This agreement was created in order to allow the companies to explore a variety of CCS solutions, which through their collaboration, can be offered by both of them.

As there has been a clear increase in the number of active CCS projects, this alliance has occurred at an excellent time and will be crucial in supporting this rapid increase in carbon capture and storage projects. The details within the agreement, highlight that this collaboration and proposed commercial alliance has always had a strong focus on supporting these projects. They plan to do this through providing high-quality and fully integrated end-to-end solutions to screen, select, characterise and monitor any and all potential carbon storage sites around the world.

Peter Whiting, EVP, Geoscience, CGG, commented, “CGG shares a strong commitment with Baker Hughes to actively support low-carbon markets with new technologies and business capabilities in carbon capture and storage. CCS is a high-growth market that is expected to play an important role in dealing with CO2 emissions. By combining the considerable expertise and complementary technologies of the two companies in the CCS arena, operators will benefit from more efficient and cost-effective solutions from two trusted market leaders.”

Vice President of Oilfield Services and Equipment, New Energies at Baker Hughes, Ahmed Eldemerdash, added, “The combination of Baker Hughes and CGG subsurface and surface capabilities will provide our customers in CCS an unmatched support to de-risk technical and economic challenges from strategy to CO2 storage site construction, and lifetime monitoring. This alliance brings to bear fully complimentary skillsets throughout the CCS value chain.”
