Class VI Permit Costs and Timelines
CCS Permitting geologic carbon storage sites is a long process. In the US it may take years to get permission to construct an injection well and additional time after construction to be authorized to inject and store CO2. This paper presents illustrative cost scenarios based on experience developing and submitting Class VI Underground Injection Control (UIC) permit applications. The presentations will show the range of permitting requirements and expectations with corresponding costs and associated timelines. The paper will present examples of how these costs and timelines are putting pressure on the pre-application process to move faster in the screening, feasibility, and application development phases.
