Hydrogen-based fuels for shipping
Hydrogen-based fuels are emerging as a key pathway for decarbonizing the maritime sector, with green hydrogen and derivatives like ammonia and methanol offering promising low-emission alternatives. Recent regulatory advances, including the IMO’s 2025 Net-Zero Framework, mandate global fuel standards and emissions pricing to accelerate adoption. However, challenges remain—ranging from high production costs and infrastructure gaps to safety and certification hurdles. This presentation explores whether hydrogen can truly deliver net-zero outcomes for shipping and how policy, technology, and market readiness intersect in shaping its future.
