The Mikawa PCC Pilot Plant has been consistently operating since September 2009. It is located in Omuta City, Fukuoka, Japan. Toshiba developed the pilot plant in 2009 and it was then commenced in 2020 along side of the demonstration plant capturing more than 600 tons of CO2 per day. This presentation will highlight the history and lessons learned from over a decade of experience operating this plant. Toshiba has developed an amine solvent that is highly efficient and a low consumer of energy. This solvent is continuously being demonstrated under the live flue gas of the Mikawa thermal Power Plant. Nearly 13,000 operating hours have been tested, recorded, and utilized for further development to obtain the highest quality solvent to market to other power plants. This CO2 capture technology is versatile in applying to various flue gas streams. High purity of captured CO2 enables the application of technology to both CCS and CCUS plants. As the world moves faster to achieve more captured CO2 that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere; Toshiba continues research, development, and deployment of state-of-the-art CO2 systems.
