The presentation will summarize the findings of a study that interviewed hydrogen experts, conducted desktop research, and ran techno-economic analysis to evaluate the prospect of fuel switching existing industrial equipment to clean hydrogen as a decarbonization strategy. The technical, safety, operational, regulatory, emerging technology, and hydrogen supply considerations of fuel switching will be explored. In addition, the results of directional economic analysis for two fuel switching scenarios (one for a boiler and one for a gas turbine) will be presented and discussed to highlight the factors that are expected to have the greatest impact on the economics of these types of projects.
